Binding can be used to hide the appearance of a person’s breasts. Some transgender men and nonbinary people use binders to minimalize their  breast and create a flatter chest. If done responsibly and carefully, binding can lead to feeling more comfortable in your body. However it can be risky to use “DIY” materials like bandages or tape because it can cause injury.

The general recommended daily use time for a binder is between 6-8 hours. You should not use your binder more than 8 hours per day. Furthermore, you should not sleep while wearing your binder and your binder should always be clean and dry. If you have pain while binding, you should listen to your body and talk to a community member or health care person. Also, it is important that you note changes of your body that could be a sign that you wearing your binder too long or your binder is too tight.
